The Denver Chapter has joined forces with South Suburban Parks and Recreation (SSPR), The City of Littleton (COL) and The Cutthroat Chapter of Trout Unlimited (CCTU) to move forward with design/construction work to enhance aquatic and riparian habitat on the urban S. Platte River.
The project is expected to create an excellent recreational fishery for Trout, Smallmouth and native species within the park. The site will be the only quality moving water fishery in the Denver metro area and will provide a venue for youth to become acquainted with the river environment.
The project site is nominally 1.5 miles below Chatfield Dam and extends downstream 2.5 miles within South Platte Park in the City of Littleton, CO. The in-stream work will encompass bank stabilization, low flow channel design, high flow refuge obstructions and reconnection of the river to existing ponds within the park. The intent of this project is to create a demonstration site as a model for further work downstream within the city of Denver.

This project is spearheaded by Todd Fehr (President DTU). Todd has vast experience in urban development and received a Field and Stream Conservation Hero award in 2009 for his work on the S. Platte.
Our work has gathered powerful allies in the Denver community and the movement to restore the most unloved stretch of river in CO is underway. Funds will be raised by cash from DTU/CCTU, DTU membership and grants from state programs and non-profits interested in water quality and aquatic/riparian habitat.
Please consider helping us make this project a reality by contributing to the South Platte Project financially or as a volunteer. To be a volunteer, sign up for our newsletter and volunteer opportunities at WWW.DenverTU.Org
